Proof of water on the moon

“This is very surprising because 40 years people have studied about the lunar rocks and no one found water.”

Three different spacecraft—India’s Chandrayaan-1, and NASA’s Cassini and Deep Impact—detected trace amounts of water molecules (H20) and hydroxyl (OH) while mapping the moon’s surface. Researchers estimated that 32 ounces of water can be found for every ton of the moon’s top layer, meaning that the moon is still drier than any desert on Earth.

Afresh analysis of the volcanic glass collected during the APOLLO mission in 1970s Has revealed that the Moon’s parched surface has water hidden beneath it, a major finding that dispels the notion that the Moon is dry.

In fact, the researchers at Brown university have found that upto 50 parts per million of water are trapped in tiny spheres of volcanic glass, the Nature journals reported in the latest edition.

“Most people belived that the moon was dry. People had tried to measure for almost 40 years and couldn’t see any evidence for water ………They were not convinced we were doing something worth while ,” lead scientist Alberto Saal said.

They discovered that the Moon’s mantle has between 260 and 770 ppm of water. “This is very surprising because of 40 years people studied about the lunar rocks and no one found the water .

It suggests that water was present within planet earth before the giant collision.” Saal said.
